While as a majority of coding is text-based (Python, Java, etc.), Scratch is a block based programming language. Also known as Drag and Drop Coding, it is a style of programming in which pre-coded blocks can be manipulated and moved around to fulfill a variety of commands and create a variety of algorithms.
In Scratch, the pre-coded blocks are found in a sidebar on the left. The grey area on the right is where the blocks are dragged to form programs (see reference below). In this lesson, you will learn the thought process behind block based programming, and how it can be used as an introduction into every other type of code.
